Eugene Police arrest wife’s boyfriend in Friday murder    

Eugene Police have arrested 22-year-old Derek Allan Ofenham of Eugene on murder charges related to the October 7 death of 50-year-old Mark Lynn Howard of Eugene.

Ofenham was brought in for questioning late yesterday afternoon by detectives with the Eugene Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit. After investigators concluded their interviews, he was lodged at the Lane County Jail on a charge of Intentional Murder late last night.

Ofenham had been engaged in a romantic relationship with the victim's wife, Janet Howard, for more than a year. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the murder.

An autopsy conducted on Saturday, October 8, revealed that Mark Howard died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and upper torso.

Detectives remain interested in speaking with anyone who saw persons, vehicles, or activity at Pro Auto Racing, 199 North Seneca Rd, between 5:30 and 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 7, or who has other knowledge which may be useful to the investigation.
